Expertly crafted in Iwami, Japan by Motoshige Pottery, this traditional Suribachi Mortar & Pestle Set is designed for grinding sesame seeds, spices, herbs, nuts, and preparing fresh dressings, sauces, and pastes. Its elegant design also makes it suitable for serving straight from the kitchen to the table.

The carefully shaped 18cm bowl keeps ingredients gathered in the centre for efficient grinding, while each interior ridge is individually hand-finished to firmly grip ingredients with less effort.

The durable Kimachi glaze, made from natural Kimachi stone, gives the interior its distinctive warm brown finish and is a traditional feature of Iwami ware.

A non-slip silicone base keeps the mortar stable during use and helps protect work surfaces.

  • Mortar Size: Approx. Ø18 × H10 cm
  • Capacity: Approx. 1350ml
  • Wooden Pestle: Ø2.8 × L24 cm
  • Material: Ceramic (body), Silicon rubber (non-slip base), Japanese beech tree (Pestle)
  • Mortar: Dishwasher and microwave safe

Fired at high temperature in the tradition of Iwami ware, the ceramic body is exceptionally hard and durable. The hand-finished interior ridges maximise grinding efficiency and release aroma with minimal effort.

Well suited to family cooking or shared meals, the larger size offers versatility while maintaining the refined simplicity of traditional Japanese kitchenware.
